Ron Burgin Head Varsity Coach
Coach Ron Burgin played high school basketball at Lake Highlands High School in Dallas, TX. He went on to play college basketball at Midwestern State University in Wichita Falls, TX, where he played for legendary coach Gerald Stockton. Coach Burgin has 18 years coaching experience. These include 5 years of coaching middle school girls, 10 years as a head coach of high school girls and boy’s varsity teams, 2 years as a men’s assistant coach at Midwestern State University, and 1 year as a women’s assistant coach at the University of Colorado. During this time, Coach Burgin’s teams have enjoyed a great deal of success including numerous league championships and trips to the final four in Texas and Colorado. In 2003, Coach Burgin’s ThunderRidge team won the Colorado State Championship and enjoyed a top 20 national ranking. Many of Coach Burgin’s players have gone on to successful basketball careers at various levels. The most recent top players to play for Coach Burgin include Terra Bjorklund (University of Colorado/WNBA Chicago Sky), Kate Fagan (University of Colorado/Colorado Chill), Randi Wirt (University of Colorado/Asst. Coach Colorado State University), Emily and Abby Waner (Duke University), Emmy Fox (University of Minnesota), and Megan McCahill (Brown University). Some of Coach Burgin’s current standout players at Arapahoe High School include Amy Barczuk, Caitlin Durkin, and Diana Hentschel. Coach Burgin’s career record is 214-131. Arapahoe’s record during his two years as head coach is 38-13. Also during that time, Arapahoe Girl’s Basketball has finished in the Sweet 16 in 2006 and the Elite 8 in 2007. Coach Burgin has won many Coach of the Year awards, including numerous League Coach of the Year Awards, the 2003 Denver Post 5A Coach of the Year, and the Rocky Mountain News All-Colorado Coach of the Year. Coach Burgin has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology, a Master of Science degree in Kinesiology, and is a Licensed Educator with 15 years experience teaching Elementary through College. He now lives in Evergreen, Co with his wife of 19 years Kelley and 8 year old daughers Maya and Randa.
